Handbook Essentials

Attendance

APS students are allowed no more than 4.5 unexcused absences per semester, and no more than 10 unexcused absences per school year. The parent/guardian must notify the school each day that the student will be absent, in accordance with the notification procedure established by the school.

Absences may be excused for the following reasons, with appropriate documentation:

  • Doctor’s appointment
  • Death in the family
  • Religious commitment
  • Illness
  • Family Emergency
  • Diagnostic testing
  • School or College Visit

When your child enrolls at Los Padillas, it is essential that they attend school ALL DAY and EVERY DAY! School starts at 8:05 a.m. and ends at 3:35 p.m.

Please notify the office by phone (877-0108, ext. 52400), in writing, or in person if your child is absent; however, this does not excuse the student’s absence.

If your child is tardy, they will check in inside the school office and receive a pass to go to class. Walk your child into the school and bring them to the Office. Please do not drop your child off at the sidewalk.

You will receive a telephone call from the APS SchoolMessenger automated system informing you that your child is absent which is generated by the teacher taking attendance. Corrections to the tardy will be made later in the morning. SchoolMessenger phone calls are computer generated and occur even if you’ve called to report your child’s absence.

If you need to check your child out of school early for doctor’s appointments or family emergency, you will sign them out in the office. The office will call your child’s classroom to have them come to the office ready to go home.
